The Precipice
Poking shoving
towards the cliff face
Tension
I’m pleading
I’m sorry
anything but that,
not again
He knows
what he’s doing but he can’t stop
I’m crying,
Hysterical, I can hardly see, breathe
And with one last push,
I go over the cliff.
Terror, chaos
then
silence
I accept my fate
too late now
just numb
falling
But as my body is about to
shatter
onto the rocks
He rushes down and catches me
My hero
He comforts and consoles me
cuddles and kisses me
and we hold hands and walk
slowly up the mountain again
but
when we arrive at the top
his eyes, his voice changes.
The fear
rises in my throat
and he nudges me gently
towards the precipice…
